Ethnobotany in Belize

Abstract: In ten pages this paper considers the study of ethnobotany as it pertains to Belize in an overview of the country, important ethnobotanist pioneers including Dr. Rosita Arvigo and Dr. Michael J. Balick, the influence of Mayan healer Don Elijio Panti; describes various medicinal uses of such plants as amor seco, mutamba, epazote, gervao, and simarouba; and also discusses the ethnobotanical contributions of the Ix Chel Farm, the Terra Nova Reserve, the Belize Association of Traditional Healers, and the Belize Ethnobotany Project. Ten sources are listed in the bibliography.
