Renaissance Art

Abstract: A 9 page research paper that focuses on the art of Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael. In the public mindset, the Renaissance refers to a specific period of history and its characteristics and culture. While this conceptualization of history has some validity, it ignores that fact that in actuality, social evolution was never so clear cut. In other words, there was considerable continuity from one age to the next, as well as differences. This realization brings up the question of precisely what the term "Renaissance" means in terms of social and cultural development, and how the Renaissance differed from the Middle Ages. In exploring this question, it becomes clear that Renaissance Italian art embodied the ideals of the new era, and that art offers a ready means for understanding the cultural context of this age.
