Religious & Social Identity in 5 Foreign Films

Abstract: A 5 page research paper that discusses and reviews 5 foreign films. Filmmakers often address their attention to the ways in which religious and social identity intersect. While religion is, presumably, a force that traditionally binds families together, several foreign film directors have created films that portray the force of religion as destructive to both families and personal identity. The following examination of five foreign films demonstrates how topics of religious and social identity have been addressed by filmmakers in ways that illustrate the pitfalls and hypocrisies of modern societies. The films reviewed are: Bread and Chocolate; Ali: Fear Eats the Soul Bab el-Oued City; Omar Gatlato and My Son the Fanatic. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
