Influence of Islamic Art

Abstract: The art of Europe, or 'Western art' is of a totally different type and style as what is known as 'Islamic art'. It is difficult to have samples of both together in one place, observe the patterns of one and the narrative form of the other and say, 'Islamic art influenced the art of Italy'. It is, however, very true. This 8 page paper asserts that the Rococo style was very similar in derivation and materials to the Islamic art that influenced it. Like the Arab style, it was primarily considered as n interior design and, or, architecture. It used stucco as a major material for reliefs and architectural features and it focused on the line as both motion and pattern to give meaning to the design. The religious content of both styles were presented through symbols as opposed to the narrative depiction associated with most Christian art of the Western tradition. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
