Troy in the Iliad & in Film

Abstract: A 5 page essay/research paper that discusses the differences between Homer's Iliad and the recent film adaptation Troy. The writer argues that the film fails to convey the essence of the ancient Greek worldview. While Homer's poem conveys a world that is distinctly alien from the Judeo-Christian perspective of the Western world roughly 3,000 years later, the film features characters that could easily fit into the modern world. In so doing, despite the jaw-dropping special effects, the movie loses a sense of history, which Homer's epic story most decidedly has. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
