Abstract: A 4 page research paper on this award-winning film from the 1940s concerning the difficulties of adjustment to civilian life faced by returning World War II veterans. The writer demonstrates how this was one of the first films to offer a realistic depiction of the way in which war impacts the lives of the soldiers. Most notable is the way in which the character of a disabled veteran is handled. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
