Abstract: An 11 page research paper that examines Allen and Albert Hughes's film Menace II Society. As independent filmmakers the Hughes brothers use film narrative in ways that differ markedly from large-scale studio productions, particularly in regards to how Hollywood has traditionally portrayed the lives of young African American males. This examination of Menace II Society looks at this film, first of all, within the overall context of black independent filmmaking, but also from both a formal and industrial critical perspective. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
