Abstract: This 6 page paper provides a social analysis of this well known opera. The author's life is discussed and parallels between his life and the work are made. Morality and social class are issues discussed. The significance of the characters and the fact that the female protagonist dies of tuberculosis is examined. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
