Abstract: This 10 page paper considers the way in which the UK theatre has been censored. From the fifteenth century through to 1968 plays needed to be licensed before being stages. The writer considers this time, the resistance to censorship and how this has impacted on the modern theatre in the UK, especially when compared with the rest of Europe.
