Creating an institution such as the National Museum of Women in the Arts is bound to bring both critics and supporters alike, inasmuch as there will be those whose opposition would stem from the fact that the museum's focal point was only that of female artists. Backers of such a project, however, would support it for that very reason, being that women have typically been overlooked in an historical context when it has come to artistic recognition.
