The Magnificent Ambersons: A Cinematic Analysis of the 1942 Film Directed by Orson Welles

Abstract: A 5 page review of the 1942 film produced, directed, and scripted, by the legendary Orson Welles. This film, along with "Citizen Kane" propel Welles into even greater notoriety than what he had experienced before. A cinematic analysis of the film reveals many innovative and unique approaches which have come to be recognized as typical of Welles' cinematography. These include his use of sound, camera angle and special effects such as fading. Concentrates on one scene, the visit to the factory, and discusses it in relation to the remainder of the film in regard to cinematic technique and its portrayal of sociohistorical and psychological concerns.
