Banana Production in Costa Rica

Abstract: An 8 page paper discussing changes occurring in banana culture during the decade of the 1990s. Costa Rica's experience with altering its banana production process illustrates that environmental concerns need not be limited only to fully developed nations. A much better path is that of preventing environmental destruction and depletion, particularly in nations largely dependent on agricultural exports for much of the national income. The case also demonstrates that it is not only young companies that can learn and innovate. Chiquita is more than 100 years old, and it led the industrial way in altering banana culture practice.
